I'm Heather McClendon
I’m a mom, cancer survivor, and school psychologist. Now, I'm running to be your representative for Tennessee House District 30.
Heather McClendon is a proud mom to three incredible children. Raised in North Georgia, Heather grew up with strong values of self-respect and respect for others, instilled by her parents and grandparents, who encouraged her to think critically about the world around her.
Dedicating her career to being a school psychologist, Heather has worked directly with students and families to find solutions to complex problems. A single mother to three kids, she powered through graduate school and a potentially life-threatening cancer diagnosis to realize her vision of making the world and Tennessee a better place. She fought through cancer and now she’s ready to fight for the people of Tennessee House District 30.
Issues That Matter
“We need straightforward solutions to address the complicated problems we are experiencing.”
HEALTH CARE
As a cancer survivor, Heather understands the importance of high-quality healthcare. When she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, she was lucky to have great insurance that gave her access to great doctors and treatment to allow her to make a full recovery. Too many Tennesseans don’t have that option today. No one should have to choose between paying rent and paying for quality healthcare. That’s why Heather will fight to expand Medicaid in Tennessee, advocate for better access to mental health services for everyone, and to improve access to women’s reproductive healthcare - because the state’s current policies are forcing good doctors out of the state so they can practice without fear of litigation.

HOUSING
Tennessee, along with the rest of the country, is experiencing a major housing crisis. Working class Tennesseans aren’t able to afford quality rentals or the dream of homeownership. The state should step in to remove barriers and to provide incentives for developers to build all kinds of housing in every part of Tennessee, without taking away the character of our communities. We have a beautiful, pro-business state that people across the country and the world are wanting to call their new home - we can’t and shouldn’t stop that. But we can prepare for it so the rest of the market doesn’t continue to feel the pain.

EDUCATION
Our neighborhood public schools can serve as the hubs of our communities while setting our children up for success - no matter what they look like or where they live. As a school psychologist, Heather is ready to support better funding for our public schools to ensure the best education for all students in Tennessee. She will expand funding for high quality preschool, insist that public dollars be spent on public schools not private ones, and increase teacher pay across Tennessee to keep our best teachers in the state.
