I was proud to stand alongside the men and women of the Communications Workers of America this week in their fight for fair contract negotiations.

Despite what my opponent and her Republican colleagues have to say: Hamilton County was built by unions and we are proud of it.

As a working-class single mother of three kids, I know the benefits unions have provided for this country, this state and for hardworking employees in every industry: Good-paying jobs and great benefits, fair contract negotiations, and better working conditions.

When Republican leaders in our town tried to place their hands on the scales over the vote to unionize at Volkswagen earlier this year, they sent a clear message that they are more interested in folding to special interests than they are in standing up for the blue-collar workers who built this town. I stand firmly alongside the men and women of the Communications Workers of America in their fight for fair contract negotiations and improved labor practices.

It’s how we make Hamilton County and Tennessee a stronger place for workers.
