UCW-CWA endorses Heather McClendon’s State House Campaign

As a school psychologist, McClendon is dedicated to investing in more resources for educators, including higher pay

CHATTANOOGA, TN - Tennessee House District 30 Candidate Heather McClendon (D-Brainerd) is thrilled to be endorsed by the United Campus Workers of Tennessee - Communications Workers of America Local 3821. The endorsement was announced Wednesday evening by the union, which represents higher education employees in Chattanooga.

“As an educator, I believe the employees on our college campuses are working toward solutions to problems that are similarly faced by other hardworking Tennesseans: higher pay, fair hours, manageable workloads, and for contracts to be negotiated in good faith,” said McClendon, who has spent her career helping teachers, families, and students find solutions that work for them. “As a school psychologist, I know that supportive environments are key to a healthy working lifestyle. Unions are on the frontlines advocating for that everyday, and I gladly accept their support of our campaign.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s employee union said Thursday McClendon was chosen for the endorsement because of her strong career in education, her support for raising the minimum wage and expanded mental health services, and her track record of supporting the rights of workers from all backgrounds.

“Heather McClendon will be a great ally to the hardworking people of Tennessee in the General Assembly,” said David Veazey, UTC caucus chair for the United Campus Workers of Tennessee. “When workers win, we all win. Tennessee can only be made stronger by supporting the progress that our members deserve.”
