The digital advertising will run on audio streaming services throughout House District 30.
CHATTANOOGA, TN - Tennessee House 30 Candidate Heather McClendon (D-Belvoir) announced a new digital advertising effort Wednesday. The campaign will run on digital streaming services targeted to voters in House District 30.
In the campaign, McClendon reflects on the life-threatening cancer diagnosis she received ten years ago. “I was lucky,” she explained. Her insurance covered the experimental treatment her doctors credited for saving her life.
“Today, too many Tennesseans will have to choose between crippling medical debt and life-saving medical treatment, and no one should have to do that,” McClendon says in the advertisement. “I’m running to represent you in the Tennessee House because I know we can do more to help families who work hard every day only to find themselves set back.”
About 1 in 10 Tennesseans do not have health insurance, according to the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office and 85% of uninsured Tennesseans cite the cost of coverage in the state as the reason for not purchasing health insurance.
McClendon argues the state could make significant progress in reducing the cost of healthcare for working-class Tennesseans, attract and keep large and small businesses, and prevent more rural hospitals from closing should it expand Medicaid, a federal insurance program that comes at no cost to the State to adopt.
“The General Assembly’s refusal to expand Medicaid is putting Tennessean’s lives at risk,” McClendon said. “Right now, our friends, family, and neighbors are deciding whether they should buy groceries or pay for necessary medications because our state legislature has chosen to, once again, play politics with our lives. When District 30 sends me to Nashville, I will fight every day to expand Medicaid to protect healthcare access for every single person in this state.”
McClendon also makes the case for restoring access to women’s reproductive healthcare in Tennessee. The State’s near-total abortion ban with very few exceptions, the strictest policy in the country, has put women’s lives at risk and forced doctors to practice in other states with fewer legal penalties to perform medically necessary procedures.
